AUGUSTA, Ga.- Vernon Albert Guy, 74, of Augusta entered into rest, Thursday, January 3, 2002, at Doctors Hospital. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 7, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Poteet Funeral Home Greene Street Chapel. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Family members include his wife of 53 years, Gertrude Bush Guy; and five children, Brenda (Don) Starrett of Grovetown, Daniel Guy of Augusta, Becky (Michael) Reagan of Grovetown, Russell (Paula) Guy of Winter Haven, Fla., and Nancy (Bobby) Cox of Norcross, Ga.; and eight grandchildren. A native of Augusta, Vernon served in the Merchant Marines in WWII. He was well known as a skilled diesel mechanic and co-owner of the Guy family business, Southern Diesel Company, Clearwater, S.C. He had a passion for flying which he had enjoyed as a licensed private pilot since the 1960s spending much of his extra time at Daniel Field.
