Assembly guests danced the night away at annual ball

The Augusta Assembly's winter ball is an annual event steeped in nearly 50 years of tradition. The Assembly, a social organization, was founded in 1952. Each December after Christmas members hold a ball in the halls of the Augusta Country Club, which are still decked with holly for the holidays.

Six young adults were the guests of honor at the 2001 ball, held Dec. 27.

The evening began with a receiving line, where the honor guests met members of the Assembly. After cocktails and dinner, the honor guest kicked off an evening with a formal dance with their parents or sponsors.

"It was a dazzling, elegant formal evening that made memories of a lifetime," said Assembly member Nancy Connolly.

This year's honor guests were:

Katharine Ann Hagler, escorted by David William Goodman. She was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. John Carroll Hagler.

John Ryd Bush Long, escorted by Katherine Baudry Moore Mohney. He was sponsored by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bush Long.

Carolyn Schell Martin, escorted by David Garrett Byars. She was sponsored by Judge and Mrs. Dudley Bowen Jr.
