THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Velmer P. Brinkley, 79, beloved husband of Mrs. Ira Dell Brinkley, of Ellington Avenue, Thomson, died Saturday, December 22, 2001, in the V.A. Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday in the Thomson Church of God with the Revs. Bobby Farmer and Billy Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Mr. Brinkley, a native of Jesup, Ga., had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Thomson Church of God. He was an army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by two sons, David and Kenneth Brinkley. He is survived by his wife, Ira Dell Brinkley, Thomson; two sons, Raymond Brinkley, Thomson and Jerry Brinkley, Dearing; two sisters, Ann Grant, Thomson and Kathryn Chalker, Avera; and five grandchildren, Julie Brinkley, Amy Brinkley, Glenn Brinkley, Shannon Brinkley and Karlee Brinkley. Pallbearers will be Rodney Arrington, Charlie Norris, Lewis Pounds, Russell Farmer, Doug Hallford and David Cole. Friends may call at the residence or at the Curtis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday night at the funeral home.
