SEATTLE -- About 25,000 tickets have been sold for the inaugural Seattle Bowl on Dec. 27.
Formerly the Oahu Bowl, the game was moved from Honolulu because of poor attendance. Last year, 24,187 people watched Georgia beat Virginia in the Oahu Bowl.
The game in Safeco Field features two teams from out of the area, Georgia Tech and Stanford. Had a Northwest team been in the bowl, ticket sales would be much higher, organizers say.
Dave Aust, director of marketing and sales for the Seattle Bowl, said bowl officials are still hoping for as many as 35,000 fans. Safeco holds 47,116 and this will be the first major sports event other than baseball played in the ballpark.
Tickets range from $15 to $75.
