Standing ovations


The Moscow String Quartet will perform music by Shostakovich, Mozart and Tchaikovsky in a concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Augusta State University's Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre, 2500 Walton Way.

Group members Olga Ogranovich, cello; Euguenia Alikhanova, violin; Galina Kokhanovskaia, viola; and Tatiana Kokhanovskaia, viola, are graduates of the Moscow Conservatory and Gnessin Musical Institute of Moscow. They won the Leo Weiner International Quartet Competition in Budapest in 1978 and the International Quartet competition in Evian, France, in 1979. The quartet members have been artists in residence at the University of Colorado at Denver since 1997.

The performance is part of the Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society season.

The Augusta Collegium Musicum will perform a selection of seasonal music at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $15 for adults, $5 students. There is no charge for Augusta State students, faculty and staff. Call 733-5929.


The season will be celebrated in song and dance by the group Creative Impressions in a concert at 6 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 605 Reynolds St.

Christmas: Then and Now - Behold the Star, is sponsored by the Georgia Council for the Arts and the Greater Augusta Arts Council. Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults and $5 for age 9 and younger.
