Officials announced Wednesday that the Jan. 1 bowl, which will pit No. 14 South Carolina and No. 22 Ohio State in Tampa, Fla., has sold out for the third time in four years.
Mike Schulze, media relations director for the Outback Bowl, said Gamecocks fans bought 22,000 tickets for the game - 7,000 more than they were originally allotted - to help secure the sellout in 2 1/2 days.
Last year, South Carolina fans purchased 28,000 tickets before the game sold out in a day. The Gamecocks beat the Buckeyes 24-7 in the 2001 Outback Bowl.
Raymond James Stadium has a capacity of 65,657.
