Stabler to speak at local sports banquet

Former Oakland Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler will be the featured speaker at the Greater Augusta Sports Awards Gala on Jan. 25 at the Radisson Riverfront Hotel Augusta.

The Greater Augusta Sports Council will honor Travis Dorsch of Purdue University for being named the winner of the second annual Ray Guy Award as the nation's top collegiate punter. Freddie Capshaw of Miami and Jeff Ferguson of Oklahoma, finalists for the award, are expected to attend.

Also at the banquet, the winners of the 11th annual Greater Augusta Medals for Excellence in Sports Awards will be honored.

Stabler, a three-time All-Pro selection with the Raiders, was a teammate of Guy in Oakland. Both played on the first Oakland team to win a Super Bowl.

Tickets for the gala are $60 each and $470 for a table of eight. For more information, call 722-8326.
