BEECH ISLAND, S.C. - Gerald L. "Pete" Peters, 71, of Beech Island, entered into rest December 4, 2001, at the V.A. Hospital, Uptown Division. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, December 9 at Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Augusta, Ga. with Rev. Allan J. McDonald officiating. Mr. Peters was a native of Gadsden, Ala. and had lived in Beech Island for 50 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was also an entrepreneur and an inventor. Mr. Peters started Peters Machine & Welding in Beech Island 40 years ago. His accomplishments include several patents for tools used in the nuclear industry and a major role in the clean up of Three Mile Island and other nuclear facilities. He was a member of the Aiken Radio Control Society and enjoyed woodworking, computers and various other hobbies. Survivors include his wife, Ingrid T. Peters of Beech Island; four sons, G. Steven Peters of Belvedere, David L. Peters of Martinez,Ga., Larry D. (and Hope E.) Peters of Augusta, Ga., and S. Kevin (and Diana M.) Peters of Beech Island; one daughter, Cheryl L. (and Robert B.) Kreider of Beech Island; one stepdaughter, Margaret A. (and Shannon) Prater of Gainesville, Ga.; two sisters, Bonnie P. Hildebrandt of Merritt Island, Fla. and Yvonne Moody of Rainbow City, Ala.; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry "Buddy" Moody, formerly of Gadsden, Ala.; and his stepson, Michael Amancio, formerly of Augusta, Ga.
