An Augusta mother's future is uncertain after a recent lay-off.
With Christmas just around the corner, she worries about gifts for her two young children. In previous years, she writes, she always contributed to charitable organizations such as the local chapters of the Salvation Army and the United Way. This year, however, the tables have turned and she is depending on the generosity of others.
"You never know what tomorrow holds," she writes. "Now I'm in need, so please help me give my kids a good Christmas."
Through contributions to the Empty Stocking Fund, the family will receive gift certificates to local Kroger stores for food and Kmart stores for other necessities.
Contributions can be sent to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928. Or visit augustachronicle.com/emptystocking to make donations online to the Empty Stocking Fund.
