BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Florida quarterback Rex Grossman, Auburn offensive lineman Kendall Simmons and Arkansas coach Houston Nutt topped the 2001 coaches' awards for the Southeastern Conference.
Grossman was named SEC Player of the Year after leading the conference and nation in passing efficiency with a rating of 170.8. Grossman, a sophomore from Bloomington, Ind., completed 259-of-395 passes for 3,896 yards and 34 touchdowns this season.
Simmons, a senior from Ripley, Miss., won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy. He helped the Tigers to a 7-4 overall record and a 5-3 SEC record.
Nutt pulled the Razorbacks out of a 1-3 start to finish at 7-4 and 4-4 in the SEC. His peers voted him SEC Coach of the Year.
Eight of the 12 SEC teams were represented on the first-team All-SEC squad. Florida had the most players on the All-SEC team with 10. LSU had eight and Tennessee had seven.
Four players were unanimous selections: Florida wide receiver Jabar Gaffney, South Carolina outside linebacker Kalimba Edwards, Tennessee running back Travis Stephens and Grossman.
