Lady Pacers win sixth game in row



AIKEN - Allison Nold's jumper with 3:12 to play gave 19th ranked USC Aiken their first lead since early in the second half as they stopped Presbyterian College 58-55 in a women's basketball game at The Courthouse in Aiken.

Nold finished with a game-high 16 points.

It was the sixth straight victory for coach Phil Stern's Lady Pacers (7-1).

"Tonight was a character builder," said Stern, who is now one victory away from 50 in his stint at USC Aiken. "We also showed that we can win with another style of play."

Dana Birnie led all scores with 19 points to go with seven rebounds for Presbyterian, which is ranked 18th. It was Presbyterian's first loss of the season.

After an exam break, the Lady Pacers return to action Saturday, Dec. 15, whey they play host to Voorhees College.

Carson-Newman won its second straight game, defeating USC Aiken as the Pacers' record dropped to 3-3.

The Eagles bombarded the Pacers from the outside, hitting 12 three-point shots. They also got help from 18 USC Aiken turnovers.

Kyle Gribble led the Eagles with 20 points, while Clint Keown had 15 points to top the Aiken scoring list.

The two teams face each other again on Dec. 15 when the Eagles go into the Courthouse.

In Cochran, Ga., Aiken Technical College squandered a halftime lead and lost to Middle Georgia College. The Knights fell to 6-3 on the season.

Renaldo Norman led Aiken Tech with 19 points, while Shannon Martin added 10 and Carl Reneger scored 10.

Aiken Tech will play at Coastal Georgia on Friday night.
