How locals fared at Q-School

Seven months out of college, Augusta's John Engler will begin his career as a professional golfer on the PGA's Buy.com Tour in 2002.

Engler, who graduated from Clemson in May, shot a 2-under 70 in Monday's final round of the 108-hole PGA Tour Qualifying School at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. He tied for 81st place at 10-under 422, earning $4,000.

The top 35 and ties earned their PGA Tour cards.

Buy.com veterans Stiles Mitchell, a former Augustan now residing in New Orleans, and Richard Johnson of Martinez earned conditional status to the developmental tour.

Mitchell closed with a 74 to finish tied for 107th place at 426, while Johnson slumped to a 79 for 437 and a tie for 151st place.

Former University of Georgia golfer Erik Compton also got conditional Buy.com Tour status after tying for 146th place.
