HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Willie Dent "Bill" Alewine, 80, of Corley Road. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2001, at 2 p.m., from Elliott Sons Lumpkin Road Chapel with the Rev. Alan Faulkner officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Blaine Carter, Blair Carter, Rhett Carter, Bobby Bellew, Timmie Davis and Brindon Johns. A WW II veteran and carpenter Mr. Alewine died Friday at University Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Alewine was born in Wrightsville and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he fought in several naval campaigns in the South Pacific aboard the battleship U.S.S. North Carolina from 1942 to 1945. After the war he moved to Augusta in the early 1950s and worked as a carpenter and a contractor for four decades. Mr. Alewine was a member of the John S. Davidson Masonic Lodge and Carpenters Local #283. Survivors include his stepmother, Susie Alewine, Martinez; three half-brothers, Thomas L. Lawrenceville, Roy, Loganville and Herbert Alewine, Martinez; two sons, William R. and David A. Alewine, Alexandria, Va.; two daughters, Carolyn M. Taylor, Johnson City, Tenn. and Lillian M. Clifton, Hephzibah; four grandchildren, William and Mariah Alewine, Amanda and Travis Taylor. He was preceded in death by grandsons, Keary and Arthur Clifton. Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends on Monday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
