A 12-year-old Hephzibah girl has been suspended after police say she brought a loaded gun to Spirit Creek Middle School on Monday and threatened to hurt a classmate.
"The student has been suspended and will face disciplinary action through our student tribunal process," said Justin Martin, Richmond County schools' public information director.
According to Richmond County sheriff's Maj. Ken Autry, the girl was feuding with a classmate over a boy. The two exchanged words at their bus stop in front of Plantation Acres Trailer Park off Deans Bridge Road in Hephzibah.
When the girl arrived at school Monday, police said, she showed the gun to several other pupils. Pupils who saw the .380-caliber pistol in the girl's book bag alerted the school's public safety officer, who found the girl and seized the gun.
Authorities said the nickel-plated pistol held a magazine that contained one round.
