Minister, veteran dies at 80

GLOVERVILLE - The Rev. Buford Taylor was a lot of things in his life.

He was an Army veteran and in 1975 retired as a nursing assistant from the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.

"He liked to go visiting different churches," said his wife, Sarah Beatrice Pope Taylor.

Mr. Taylor had been a Holiness minister since his 40s and had ministered at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Waynesboro until 1997, when his health stopped allowing it, Mrs. Taylor said.

Mr. Taylor died Monday in Augusta. He was 80.

A native of Emanuel County, he had lived in Gloverville for 50 years and raised his five children and two stepchildren there.

"He was a wonderful person," Mrs. Taylor said. "We loved each other so, that's the main thing." They would have been married 33 years in December.

He is survived by four sons, Michael Taylor, Terry Jack Taylor Sr., Steven Taylor and Travis Lee Taylor; a daughter, Gayle Lynette Vieira; a stepson, Tommy Spence; and a stepdaughter, Kathryn Daughtry.

The funeral service was Thursday at Napier Funeral Home with the Rev. David Yauncey officiating. Entombment followed in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville.
