Mrs. Mattie Smalley



EVANS, Ga.- Entered into rest October 25, 2001, in Augusta, Mrs. Mattie Bussey Smalley, 101, of Evans. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2001, at Curtis Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. A native of Edgefield County, S.C., Mrs. Smalley had retired as housmother of the nursing residence at the Medical College of Georgia. For over 25 years, Mrs. Smalley was also an interpreter for the deaf at Curtis Baptist Church and its Sunday school. She is survived by her son, Rev. James Lee Smalley Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; her daughter, Jane S. Bowen of Augusta; and her grandchildren, Anna Flanagin of Framingham, Mass., Sallie Beason of New York City, N.Y., Martha Sanford of Boston, George Lumbar Bowen Jr. of Washington, Ga. and Guy Lee Bowen of Augusta; and two great-grandchildren. If so desired, memorials may be made to Curtis Baptist Church Building Fund, 1326 Broad Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
