Top games

Westside (6-0, 3-0) at Washington County (5-1, 2-1)

8 p.m.

The House of Pain, Sandersville, Ga.

Patriots - Gerald Barnes; Golden Hawks - Rick Tomberlin

Key players:

Westside - RB Aundra Ellison (Jr., 6-0, 225); LB Jesse Suarez (Sr., 6-1, 230); DE Jeff Stevenson (Sr., 6-0, 190).

Washington County - FB Chris Irwin (Sr., 5-9, 220); LB Ken Freeman (Sr., 5-9, 190); DE Rico Boss (Sr., 5-10, 220).

Game notes: The winner of this game takes the inside track to the Region 3-AAA title. Washington County hasn't forgotten last year's loss to the Patriots and have steadily talked about revenge. Beating Washington County won't be easy, but if the Patriots continue to play great defense, they have a great chance.

Barnwell (9-0, 4-0) at Silver Bluff (9-0, 4-0)

7:30 p.m.

Silver Bluff Stadium, Petticoat Junction, S.C.

War Horses - Dwayne Garrick; Bulldogs - Al Lown

Key players:

Barnwell - TB/CB Alexis Walker (Sr., 5-8, 166); TB Marcus Williams (Sr., 5-11, 178); TE/LB Josh Pierce (Sr., 5-10, 174). Silver Bluff - LB Shawn Harris (Sr., 6-1, 195); QB Deangelo Bryant (Jr., 6-1, 215); HB Troy Williamson (Sr., 6-2, 195).

Game notes: It doesn't get any better than a No. 1 vs. No. 2 game between these two schools. Top-ranked Silver Bluff has a 24-game winning streak and has outscored its competition by an average of 40-10.8. Barnwell hasn't been as impressive offensively, but manages to get the job done. Throw out the records in this one.

Burke County (5-2, 4-1) at Thomson (6-0, 4-0)

7:30 p.m.

The Brickyard, Thomson, Ga.

Coaches: Bears - Nick Davis;Bulldogs - Luther Welsh

Key players: Burke County - QB Rameriz Crumbley (Sr., 6-0, 180); FB Miquel Payne (Sr., 5-5, 160); LB Eric Creager (Sr., 5-9, 170). Thomson - FB Demarco McNair (Jr., 5-11, 175); LB Danny Verdun (Jr., 6-2, 220); LB Korey Castleberry (Sr., 6-1, 195).

Game notes: After starting the season 1-2, Burke County has strung together four straight victories and is still in the hunt for the Region 3-AAAA title. While both teams rely heavily on running the ball, if Burke County can throw effectively, its passing attack could propel the Bears to two straight victories over Thomson.

North Augusta (8-1, 3-1) at Aiken (6-3, 3-1)

8 p.m.

Hagood Stadium, Aiken, S.C.

Coaches: Yellow Jackets - Joe Long; Hornets - >Carey Johnson

Key players: North Augusta - LB Jason Stewart (Jr., 6-1, 220); RB Reggie Merriweather (Sr., 5-10, 190); WR Brian Danforth (Sr., 5-10, 190). Aiken - DT/FB Josh Nicholson (Sr.); OL Phillip Williams (Sr.); OLB/RB Kenyata Smith (Jr.).

Game notes: Last week's loss to Irmo took some of the luster off this game but it's still big for both teams. Aiken has rebounded from a slow start and is playing perhaps the best football of the season. North Augusta must find some offense to along with Merriweather if the Jackets plan on winning.

Jefferson County (3-4, 2-1) at Harlem (4-1-1, 3-0)

8 p.m.

Harlem Stadium, Harlem, Ga.

Coaches: Warriors - J.B. Arnold; Bulldogs - Jimmie Lewis

Key players: Jefferson County - HB Chris Farmer (Sr., 6-0, 185); OT/DT Fernando Velasco (Jr., 6-5, 320); SE Xavier Walden (Jr., 6-0, 160). Harlem - LB/HB Larry Crawford (Jr., 6-0, 195); QB Domonique Brown (Sr., 6-1, 185); LB/HB Tae Dorsey (Jr., 5-10, 185).

Game notes: After Jefferson County's upset of Laney, the Warriors are suddenly a force in Region 3-AAA and gunning for a playoff berth. A Harlem victory coupled with a Westside loss would give the Bulldogs sole possession of first-place. But a loss to Jefferson County would seriously dampen Harlem's hopes of hosting a first-round playoff game.
