Mr. Claude Brown



WASHINGTON, Ga. - Mr. Claude Simpson Brown, 89, of Lexington Road, died Tuesday evening at the Lake Crossing Nursing Home in Appling. Mr. Brown was a native of Washington, Ga., and had lived in Washington for the past 26 years after living and working in N. Charleston, S.C. He was a retired welder at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and was a member of the Washington First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon, at 2 p.m., at Hopkins Funeral Home with Rev. Albert Huyck officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Smith, Ronnie Kimsey, Richard Kimsey, Graham Smith, Jon Smith, Morgan Smith, David McClearen and Kenny Baggett. He is survived by three sons, Carl Jones of Warrenton, Hoke Jones of California and Claude Young Purcell, of Social Circle; two daughters, Frances Cook, Richmond, Va. and Sarah Smith of Cleveland, Ga.; four sisters, Ellen McClearen of Washington, Anne Kimsey, Epworth, Louise Smith of Tignall and Reba Pounds of Thomson; 19 grandchildren and a number of great and great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., at Hopkins Funeral Home. The Augusta Chronicle October 18, 2001
