It's going to be the best automobile race held in recent Augusta history, proclaimed Bill "Catfish" Reese, who is promoting a Super Late Model race at Silver Eagle Speedway on Saturday night.
"We wanted to let the race fans in the CSRA enjoy one big race like they have never seen here before," he said.
The Super Late Model division features cars from 1965 to 1995, Reese said. He said there hasn't been a race like this in the Augusta area since 1993, when he owned the track.
"They've had a few super late model races, but nothing like this," he said.
There will be three additional races, with the Limited Late Model, Super Street and V8 Pure Street. All eyes, however, will be on the Super Late Model race, which is awarding $5,000 to the winner.
Gates open at 4 p.m and racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
"There's going to be some very, very good competition," Reese said. "It's going to be the best race they've had around here lately. Those little sprint cars, I don't think those cars can compete with this race.
"It's going to be a show."
Reese anticipates more than 30 Super Late Model car racers participating. Reese expects speeds to reach 100 miles per hour on the straightaway for the featured race.
Tickets are $15 for grandstand seats, $10 for kids ages 8 to 12 and free for children ages 7 and under. Pit passes are $30.
