AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Johnnie A. Carpenter Sr. died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 6, 2001. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 8, 2001, at 10 a.m. from Elliott Sons Lumpkin Road Chapel, with the Reverend Hal Hodgens officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. until 6 at the funeral home. A native of Louisville, Mr. Carpenter has resided in Augusta since 1968. He was a member of Glenn Hills Baptist Church, a member of the Modern Woodmen of The World and the Carpenters Union. Mr. Carpenter was retired from civil service at Fort Gordon as a carpenter. During World War II, Mr. Carpenter served in Scotland in the United States Army Air Corps. Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Agnes Faglier Carpenter. He is survived by his three daughters, Dianne Carpenter Bennett, Augusta, Janice Carpenter Crawford, Hephzibah, Deborah Carpenter Coleman, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; one son, John A. Carpenter Jr., Augusta; five grandchildren, Tara Chavous, Bryan Chavous, both of Augusta, David Coleman, Kasey Coleman, both of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Melissa Crawford, Hephzibah; one great-grandchild, Paige Kozenko, Augusta. Pallbearers will be Brad Wasden, Doug Wasden, Troy Faglier, Vernon Faglier, Darrell Williams, Frank Williams.
