GIBSON, Ga. - Mr. Clarence H. Knighton, 77, of Calhoun Street, died Sunday, September 23, 2001, at Hart County Hospital, Hartwell, Ga. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mill Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Hadden and the Rev. Richard Bielski officiating. Burial will be in the Gibson City Cemetery, Gibson. Mr. Knighton was a native of Troup County, Ga. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII for three years. He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church where he served as deacon and the Mens Adult Sunday School Class. He graduated from Union University in Jackson, Tenn. He was a teacher, a coach, and he worked for the Y.M.C.A. He worked for the Recreation Department in Jefferson County. He was an avid golfer and was a member of many civic clubs. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rebecca D. Knighton of Gibson; a son, Bruce Knighton of Lavonia; a daughter, Becky Sumrall of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Bobby Knighton of Hogansville; a sister, Ruby Powell of Lagrange. Pallbearers are Hubert Pulliam, Lee Griffin, Joe Dean Usry, Marion Snider, Willis Johnson, Charles Usry, Bill Raley and Hoyt Cole. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons and the Mens Adult Sunday School Class at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Mill Creek Baptist Church in care of Joe Dean Usry, P.O.
