PITTSBURGH -- Alexei Kovalev scored twice and Robert Lang added a goal to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5-3 exhibition win over the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday night.
The Penguins' second line accounted the first four goals with Martin Straka also scoring against goaltender Damian Rhodes. Aleksey Morozov added an empty-net goal with 35.5 seconds remaining.
Kovalev set up the first two goals, tied the score at 3 on a power play at 6:14 in the third and scored on a shot from the blue line at 10:12.
Lang opened the scoring with 4:05 remaining in the first.
The Thrashers countered with two goals in a 58-second span early in the second. Tony Hrkac beat goalie Sebastien Caron, who was backed up by Jean-Sebastien Aubin, for a power-play goal at 6:39 and Lubos Bartecko scored at 7:37. Hnat Domenichelli added a goal 16 seconds into the third period.
