PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The Senior PGA Tour released its schedule Monday for the 2002 season, including the Royal Caribbean Classic in February - the first event that Ben Crenshaw and Fuzzy Zoeller will be eligible to play.
The Classic will be held Feb. 1-3 at the Crandon Park Golf Club in Key Biscayne, Fla. It will be preceeded by two events - the Mastercard Championship and Senior Skins Game - for which Crenshaw and Zoeller will not be eligible.
Tournaments will be held in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas. There will be 37 official events awarding points toward the season championship, plus five unofficial tour events - four of which follow the Senior Tour Championship Oct 25-27 in Oklahoma City.
CNBC will have weekend coverage of 30 tournaments, while ABC, CBS and NBC will broadcast coverage of 10 tournaments.
The 2002 senior majors include the Senior PGA Championship at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio June 7-9, the U.S. Senior Open at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md., June 28-30, the Senior Players Championship July 12-14 at the TPC of Michigan in Dearborn, Mich., and the Tradition April 26-28 at a site to be announced at a later date.
