ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Cory Sullivan homered to lead off the first and Justin Lincoln went 3 for 4 with four RBI as the Asheville Tourists handed Augusta a 6-1 South Atlantic League loss Friday.
The GreenJackets, who had been shutout in 21 innings, finally broke through in the fourth inning off Joe Hattig's RBI single, cutting Asheville's lead to 3-1. However, Enemencio Pacheco was just too overpowering for the Jackets.
Pacheco recorded his first win of the season, pitching seven innings of three hit ball, walking one and struck out nine.
After the Tourists took a 1-0 lead, Edmund Muth singled, stole second and scored on Lincoln's RBI single. Two innings later, Lincoln reached on a fielder's choice but also drove in Bryan Peck to push the lead to 3-0. Lincoln would later hit a two-run homer in the seventh to seal the victory.
GreenJackets starter Mauricio Lara (7-6) lasted just four innings, allowing eight hits and four runs - all earned - while striking out five.
The teams will play Game 2 of their four-game series with Felix Villegas starting for Augusta and Chris Buglovsky starting for Asheville.
