HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Funeral services for Franklin Hardy Smothers, 75, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 11, 2001, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Bishop Clifton Barfield officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetey directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or a charity of your choice. Mr. Smothers died Thursday, August 9, 2001. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Margaret Elizabeth Turnage Smothers. He was retired from the Ashland Oil Company. He served in the U.S. Marines for four years and was a veteran of World War II. Survivors are his wife, Faye Lafferty Smothers of Hartsville, S.C.; sons and daughter-in-law, Thomas F. and Merle S. Smothers of Beech Island, S.C., Ralph L. Smothers of Hartsville, S.C.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Diane Smothers of Santee, S.C., James H.and Della Smothers of Mobile, Ala.; sisters and brother-in-law, Maisie S. Mims of Hartsville, Bernice and Harvey Teal of Hartsville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
