Ratty Riverwalk poses health threat

This is regarding rat infestation in the Augusta Riverwalk area. Rat population is rapidly increasing on the river banks. One can see them running in and around garbage cans, on picnic tables, benches and on the rocks.

Rats are carriers of fleas, which are associated with typhus and plague. They are also noted for being a carrier of Hantavirus in their urine, feces, and saliva.

If Augusta-Richmond County does not take immediate steps to exterminate these pests, they might become a serious health problem. Please keep the Augusta Riverwalk clean and hygienic for the public to enjoy.
