Not everyone could fight in wars

Once again Richard D. Renew writes (letter, July 4) criticizing everyone who didn't earn an Expert Infantryman badge and a Purple Heart, either during the Korean War or the Vietnam War.

Lighten up, Mr. Renew. Don't be so hard on those who served in the Reserves and those who served in the military during peace time. They were subject to being sent to a war area.

Mr. Renew doesn't appear to be a member of the Korean War Veterans Association. Why is that? The Sgt. Harold F. Adkison Chapter would be glad to have him join us. But I must warn him, not all of the members were awarded a Purple Heart. Some of our members were POWs, some were Airborne Rangers, and some of us were lucky to get a Good Conduct medal.
