Fishing tournament news

Aug. 4, Savannah River

Tournament hours 7 a.m. until noon. Launch at Riverside boat ramp opposite Bettys Branch off Hardy-McManus Road, Evans. Entry fee is $50 per boat. Twenty-fish limit, ties broken by largest fish. All entrants must pre-register at Southland Taxidermy (737-6700) or Fishing and Fire Arms in Grovetown (855-7886). Entry deadline is Aug. 1. Georgia fishing laws prevail. First prize: $500 Water Bug Boat. Second prize: $115 bream mount. Third prize: Two $25 gift certificates.

Entry fee is $22 per boat. Hours are 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Five-fish limit per team or individual. Payback is based on number of boats entered. The Summer Saturday Night Classic will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 5 p.m. to midnight and anglers must have fished a minimum two regular season tournaments to qualify, or pay $100. Those who have fished a minimum of two tourneys will pay an entry fee of $55, including big fish pot. There is a one-time registration fee of $20 per person. Entry fee is $30. Regular tournaments are sponsored by Chuck's Lakeside Marine, Willoughby Ford of Thomson, Ga., Sportsman's Link of Martinez, Rick's Paint & Body of Martinez, White Columns Inn of Thomson and Augusta Marine Superstore. They will be held every Saturday from safe light until 1 p.m., until further notice out of Cherokee Ramp. Tournaments will not be held when dates conflict with Clark Hill Committee events. Anglers must fish a total of 6 tournaments to qualify for the SMOT Classic, which will pay a guaranteed $10,000 to the first-place team based on 30 boats. One place will be paid for every 10 additional boats. Qualified teams will pay $150 to compete in the Classic, while non-qualifiers must pay $400. For more information: Dennis Bullard, 541-0870.
