The violent crimes division of the Richmond County Sheriff's office is investigating the hit and run killing of a man in a trailer park in south Augusta.
The incident was reported at 9:30 p.m. It happened at a property near the intersection of Kissingbower and Milledgeville roads, across the street from a coin laundry.
Hours later crime scene tape stretched around a dirt driveway between mobile homes and shacks. A crime scene investigator placed evidence markers in a spot near a trash bin.
Residents sat outside and watched the officers, but no one knew what had happened.
Police reported to dispatch that a vehicle had been stopped and a person thought to be responsible had been apprehended.
At 1:15 a.m. investigators were still in interviews and could not comment on the investigation.
Deputy Coroner Grover Tuten could not be reached for comment.
