CHARLESTON, S.C. - Raul Nieves led a handful of Augusta GreenJackets with three hits and Dustin Brisson drove in three runs as the GreenJackets defeated the Charleston RiverDogs 8-3 in South Atlantic League action Wednesday.
Nieves had three of Augusta's 11 hits and helped make a winner of Rick Miniel (6-3), who pitched five innings, scattering five hits while allowing three runs. Franklin Francisco followed Miniel with three solid innings while whiffing six.
Augusta abused Charleston starter Evan Rust (6-6) for seven runs of eight hits in five innings. All of the runs were scored as part of a seven-run third.
Along with his three RBI, Brisson was 2 for 5 as was third baseman Tony Blanco. Julio Guerrero drove in two runs with a double in the third. Aside from Kenny Perez and Brian Esposito, every starter collected at least one hit.
The Jackets (8-11) and RiverDogs (10-9) will conclude their brief two-game series today with Augusta's Luis Perez (6-5) scheduled to face Charleston's Doug Waechter (6-7) at 7:05 p.m.
