Investigators have no clues in the July 1 shooting death of an Augusta man while he was leaving a friend's apartment, said Richmond County sheriff's Maj. Ken Autry.
Police have found no motive in the shooting.
"We're still looking," Maj. Autry said. "We've had some calls in the case, and we do have some things that we're looking at.
"It's too early to tell if they're developing anything."
Sam Lewis III, 23, was gunned down in the hallway of the building at Merrick Place apartment complex off Skinner Mill Road.
Police said Mr. Lewis was approached in the parking lot by two men wearing masks. He was chased into the building, where both men opened fire.
According to Maj. Autry, the victim was going to a friend's home to pick up a compact disc.
The investigator did not release the friend's name, but said no one was home when the shooting occurred.
Maj. Autry added that the victim had a key to the apartment.
Mr. Lewis was buried Saturday in Southview Cemetery. He is survived by a daughter, Tydesia Evans; his parents, Sam and Dorris Lewis Jr.; and two sisters.
