WAGENER, S.C. - Entered into rest Saturday, July 7, 2001, in Aiken, Mr. Robert Eugene "Gene" Garvin,46, "A Giant Among Men", of Shadow Lane Road. Mr. Garvin was born in Aiken County, the son of the late Mr. Ray P. Garvin and Myrtle H. Garvin. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wagener, he was a choir member, Deacon, and a member of the Young Adults Sunday School Class. Other organizations include being a member of Wagener-Salley Young Farmers and a supporter of the Wagener-Salley Future Farmers of America (FFA). Mr. Garvin was owner of Garvins Bulldozer and Backhoe Service and a farmer for 26 years. Survivors include his wife Pam Burckhalter Garvin, Wagener; three sons, Gregg E. Garvin, Camden, Chad Carpenter, Baltimore, Md., Troy Carpenter, Wagener; one brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Beth Garvin, Salley; and many nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Doug Busbee, Jimmy Cook, Gary Seigler, Johnny Tyler, Ronnie Cook, Alan Spradley, Gene Dillon, David Williams, Joe Burckhalter. Honorary pallbearers will be Wagener-Salley Young Farmers, Employees of Garvins Bulldozer and Backhoe Service, and First Baptist Church of Wagener Adult Choir. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials by made to: Research for Alzheimers or Wagener-Salley FFA Scholarship in memory of Gene Garvin. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Wagener. Rev. David Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, July 9, 2001, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Blizzard Funeral Home, Inc., 153 South Main Street, Wagener.
