AUGUSTA, Ga. - Rev. Hilton Charles Garrett Sr., age 78, of Ingleside Drive, entered into rest Sunday, July 8, 2001, at the V.A. Medical Center, Augusta. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2001, from the First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Timothy Owens officiating. A funeral service will also be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2001, from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home in Baxley. Burial in Omega Cemetery, Baxley. A native of Eastman, Rev. Garrett served in World War II European Theater, Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Survivors include his wife, Mary Nell OFarrell Garrett of Augusta; two sons, Hilton C. Garrett Jr. of Atlanta and Thomas C. Garrett of Roswell; three daughters, Christina Louise Garrett Gentry of Carrollton, Reena Sue Garrett of Richmond, Va., and Ruth Eileen Garrett Crews of Augusta; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Active pallbearers will be Hilton C. Garrett Jr., Thomas C. Garrett, J. Wade Garrett, Hilton C. Garrett III, John Garrett Gentry and William Charles Crews. Memorials may be made to the Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Swain Funeral Home from 8 until 9 p.m.
