AUGUSTA, Ga. - Henry Daniel McLendon, 69, of Augusta, Ga., entered into rest Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at his residence. The youngest of nine boys, he is survived by five children, Ramona M. Powell, Thomson, Ga., Rhonda M. Schmidt, Sebring, Fla., Roslyn M. Cooke, Evans, Ga., Molly M. Rhodes, Evans, and Henry D. McLendon Il., Augusta; and six grandchildren. One brother, Claude E. McLendon, Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews; and a devoted friend, Shirley Maldonado also survive him. Mr. McLendon, a native of Lyons, Ga., was a chemist and local school teacher and business owner over the last 30 years. He served in the U. S. Army and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Ga. He received a Masters Degree in Education from the Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga. He taught and coached football in South Georgia and retired from the Richmond County Board of Education in 1987. He was a chemist for Englehardt Minerals Kaolin Corp in McIntyre, Ga. and plant superintendent at Valchem Corp in Langley, S.C. Mr. McLendon enjoyed many business endeavors including, McLendons Peanut Plant and Wholesale Co. in Vidalia, Ga. and owned and operated the Broadway Fish Market, Stein Room Lounge & Pub Restaurant and Henrys Piano Bar in Augusta. He was a member of Lake Park Church, Garden City Lyons Club, VFW Post 3100, American Legion Post 205, Forty & Eight Voiture 719 and the Medicare Benefits Advisory Council. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2001, at Poteet Chapel West, 3638 Wheeler Road, with the Reverend Earl Saxon officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park. The family received friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Poteet West 3638 Wheeler Road. Pallbearers will be Benny McLendon, BJ McLendon, Miles Cason, Butch McClendon, Melvin Cason, Bob Stevens Jr. Poteet Funeral Home - 3686 Wheeler Road, Augusta.
