Jackets defeat Bombers, remained tied for first



COLUMBIA, S.C. - Despite the rough outing by Seung Song, Augusta tied the game in the seventh and then scored in the top of the 11th as the GreenJackets defeated the Capital City Bombers 5-4 Wednesday in South Atlantic League play.

Coupled with the RedStixx's 10-3 win over Charleston (S.C.), Augusta and Columbus are tied at 35-24 with 11 games remaining in the first half of the season.

After Brian Adams gave up the Bombers fourth run, Franklin Francisco and Daniel Giese (3-3) combined to pitch five innings of one-hit baseball while striking out four.

Justin Sherrod led the GreenJackets attack with three hits and a pair of runs which included his seventh home run of the season. Tony Blanco also hit his seventh homer while going 2 for 6 with three RBI.

The Jackets pounded out 14 hits to the Bombers' nine - four off the bat of designated hitter Will Smith - and seven off Capital City starter Bob Keppel. The right-hander three runs, one walk and struck out three in five innings of work.

Craig Brazell led the Bombers with three hits - including two doubles - and was the lone player with more the one hit on the night.

Game two of the four-game series continues today at 7:05 p.m.
