AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Harry E. Usry, Sr., age 79, died at the Ga. War Veterans Home May 22, 2001. He is survived by sons, Harry E. Usry, Jr., of Evans, Ga. and Jackson L. Usry of Augusta, Ga.; daughter, Mrs. Janet Usry Hooks of Girard, Ga.; sisters, Eloise Musgrove of North Augusta, S.C., Jo Boerckel of Martinez, Ga., Hazel Jackson of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Kathryn Akins of Kingsland, Ga., Jackson L. Usry II of Augusta, Ga., Michael Gay of Sylvania, Ga., and Denise Brossette of Sylvania, Ga.; three great grandchildren, Adam Akins Matt Akins, and David Akins all of Kingsland, Ga. Mr. Usry served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of WWII, and had retired from the Augusta City Water Works as a pumping station operator. He was a lifelong resident of Harrisburg and a member of Lake Park Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion Post #63. Mr. Usry was recipient of the Purple Heart , a member of the Purple Heart Association of Augusta, and a member of the Committee of Good Government and the Lively Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Platts Funeral Home with Rev. Robert W. Riley and Rev. Earl Saxon officiating. Interment in Westview Cemetery.
