AUGUSTA, Ga. - Robert Hamilton Smith Sr., 84, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at University Hospital, beloved husband of Myra Belding Smith for 64 years. Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Augusta and a Baptist. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He worked at Elliott Sons Funeral Home full and part time for a number of years and was part owner of Motor Supply Company on Broad Street. He was a member of Green Meadows Golf Club and served on the Board of Directors. "He was loved by all that knew him and will be missed by those who loved him." Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Reverend Larry Harmon and the Reverend Kelly Hamilton officiating. Family will receive friends Tuesday, May 22, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife Myra Belding Smith, Augusta, Georgia; one daughter, Barbara S. Newby, Augusta, Georgia; two sons, Charles H. Smith, The Villages, Florida and Robert H. Smith Jr., Evans, Georgia; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Board of Directors at Green Meadows Golf Club. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Fox, Michael Hodnick, Charles H. Smith Jr., Michael ORourke, Ray H. Newby, Belding Robins, and Ronald Hooker. Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 1134 Telfair Street, Augusta.
