Dr. Charles Whitaker



AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Mass of Christian burial for Charles Bollin Whitaker, M.D. will be held Saturday, May 26, 2001, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Thomas A. Evatt celebrant. Farewell prayers will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Dr. Whitaker, 82, of Roslyn Cir., beloved husband of the late Dorothy Michel Whitaker, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at his residence. He was one of nine children born to James Cantey and Agnes Mary McGregor Whitaker in Columbia, S.C. on January 22, 1919. Dr. Whitaker was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and Georgetown University Medical School, Washington, D.C., class of 1943. He served during WWII in the United States Army Medical Corps as a battalion surgeon and stateside during the Korean War. He moved to Aiken in 1952 and retired in 1991 from E. I. DuPont Savannah River Plant as a physician. He was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Dr. Whitaker particularly enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and gardening. He was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Agnes Whitaker Nuckols. Surviving are four daughters, Virginia Catherine Whitaker, Aiken, Dorothy Anne Whitaker Bedard and her husband Paul David, Chester, Va., Jean Elizabeth Whitaker Kudach, Wilmington, Del., Patricia Louise Whitaker Dunham and her husband Michael, Newark, Del.; a son-in-law, Chris Nuckols, Roanoke, Va.; two sons, Charles Bollin Whitaker Jr., and his wife Gayle, Charlotte, N.C., Michel William Whitaker and his wife Beverly, Beaufort, S.C. Also surviving are his sister, Emily Whitaker White, Sullivans Island, S.C. and thirteen grandchildren, Michelle, Elizabeth, Matthew and John Bedard, Angela and Michael Nuckols, Virginia and Jay Kudach, Carleigh and Courtney Whitaker, Richard and Timothy Dunham, and Jessica Whitaker. A vigil for the deceased will be held Friday, May 25, 2001, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.
