Both Greenbrier and Swainsboro begin semifinals play in the state baseball playoffs on Friday with doubleheader series beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Greenbrier goes to Columbus Shaw, while Swainsboro visits Region 2-AAA rival Savannah Christian.
Shaw has swept Lakeside, Thomas County Central and Oconee County en route to the Class AAAA semifinal round. But Shaw coach Charles Flowers knows Greenbrier's tradition will be tough to overcome.
"No matter what the records are after the regular season, you can look around and Greenbrier is going to be there," Flowers said. "Tradition can do a lot for a program and we know we're going to be in for a dogfight."
If a third game is needed, the Wolfpack and Raiders will play at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Swainsboro and Savannah Christian split during the regular season, but the Tigers have been on a roll as the No. 3 seed from Region 2-AAA. After surviving a tough first-round series with Westside, the Tigers beat Perry in Round 2 before sweeping Loganville last Saturday.
If Game 3 is needed, the game will start at 2 p.m. Saturday in Savannah.
Neither Shaw nor Savannah Christian have lights at their baseball fields.
