COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Gabe Gross hit two solo home runs as Auburn beat South Carolina 5-3 on Sunday.
Auburn (31-14, 12-12 Southeastern Conference) not only avoided a three-game sweep by South Carolina, but also broke a 12-game losing streak to the Gamecocks dating back four seasons.
South Carolina (34-14 12-12 SEC) allowed only five hits, but three of them were home runs. The Tigers have hit seven home runs in the past two games after coming into the series with 20 homers in 42 games.
Colby Paxton (4-2) pitched seven innings to earn the win for Auburn. He allowed six hits, walked three and struck out two. Eric Brandon did not allow a hit over two innings to pick up his third save.
Chris Spigner (6-4) took the loss for South Carolina.
