Area sports announcements



Note: Announcements for participatory events must be written, delivered, mailed or faxed to The Augusta Chronicle, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, Ga., 30903-1928, with a return address and phone number. ARCHERY

BASEBALL

Applications are being accepted for the 21st annual Robert Sapp Baseball Camp at Sweetwater Park in Thomson, Ga., May 28-June 1. The camp last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is for boys ages 7-14. Cost is $100. Call the Thomson Recreation Department at (706) 595-2152.

The Kenny Thomas Baseball Camp will be held at USC Aiken June 11-15 and June 23-27. Athletes will be given the opportunity to work on fundamentals (fielding, throwing, batting and base running) with USC Aiken coaches and players. Athletes have the option of attending camp for a half-day or a full day. The camp is for ages 6-15 and the cost is $105/half-day, Mondays-Fridays from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or $ 155/full day Mondays - Thursday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m.-noon. The City of Aiken is looking for people who are interested in officiating Dixie Youth Baseball (Minors 9-10). You must be at least 17 years of age in order to apply. We are also looking for umpires 18 years or older to umpire Dixie Baseball (11 through 18yrs. of age). In order to umpire Dixie Baseball you must take a test to become certified. On Thursday, March 29, 2001 we will be having a Minor League (9-10 years) Umpires Meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Citizens Park. Following that will be an umpire's certification (no charge). BASKETBALL

April 29: The Brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. will be holding the Greek Basketball Challenge at 3 p.m. at the North Augusta High School Gym. Tickets are $3 at the door. There will be two games, one pitting Kappa Alpha Psi against Alpha Phi Alpha and the main event which pits Omega Psi Phi vs. Phi Beta Sigma.

BOOSTER CLUB

GYMNASTICS

Recreational class teaching tumbling and balance beam skills. The class is for boys and girls, ages 4-10. The cost is $22 per month for Aiken City residents and $39.50 per month for all others. Classes meet at 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays at the Weeks Center. Call (803) 642-7631 to register.

Aiken-Augusta Swim League is conducting swim clinics for anyone interested in learning more about strokes, turns and starts. The City of Aiken Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a registration for swimming lessons (at Smith-Hazel Pool) at Citizens Park starting on May 16. TABLE TENNIS
