One killed in Aiken County shooting

WINDSOR - A woman is dead after an argument with her former common law husband ended violently Saturday when the man shot at her three times, striking her once in the neck, according to police.

Susie Summers Bookman, 37, of Oak Ridge Club Road, was rushed to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital where she died from her injuries shortly after the 1 p.m. shooting, said Lt. Michael Frank of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

The man said to be the shooter is Mitchell C. Daniels, 35, of Route 1, Wagener. Police from at least three agencies are still searching for Mr. Daniels, who ran from Ms. Bookman's home after the shooting.

Authorities say Mr. Daniels went to Ms. Bookman's mobile home Saturday afternoon and an argument soon ensued. Their relationship had ended two months earlier, Lt. Frank said.

At some point, Mr. Daniels waved a handgun and fired, hitting Ms. Bookman in the neck.

Police and bloodhounds were scouring the back roads of Aiken County in search of Mr. Daniels on Saturday. He is a black, 5-feet, 5-inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt, blue sweatpants and a blue waist pouch.
