Roses will be displayed in annual show at mall

Roses are in bloom, and it's time to show them off.

The Augusta Rose Society will hold its 39th annual Spring Rose Show Saturday and Sunday at Augusta Mall on Wrightsboro Road. The show is open during mall hours, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 12:30-6 p.m. Sunday.

Entries will be accepted from 6 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday.Bring cut blooms through the service entrance of the mall, located between J.C. Penney and Piccadilly Cafeteria. There is no entry fee, but exhibitors must register.

The Augusta Rose Society will provide all supplies needed to show a bloom, including entry tags and vases.

Entry classes include hybrid teas, miniatures, floribundas, climbers, polyanthas, shrubs and old garden roses. In addition to single-bloom-per-vase classes, others will call for three to five roses of the same or different variety in the same vase, roses with cut stems floated in water, three stages of a rose bloom and an informal arrangement.

Design classes include modern, Oriental and traditional designs. A novice class will be open in the horticulture and design categories.

Judging will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and be completed by 2 p.m. Members of the Augusta Rose Society will be on hand to answer specific rose-growing questions.
