April 23: A free seminar on quality deer management and nutrition will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 23, at American Sportsman on Washington Road in Martinez. Todd Stittleburg, a ruminant nutritionist and owner of Antler King deer nutrition company in Wisconsin, will present the program. Call 803-429-4560 for information.
April 25: A fly-casting course will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wed., April 25, and from 9 a.m. to noon Sat., April 28, at Augusta State University. Rods and equipment are supplied for anyone needing them. Cost is $49. Instructors are Perry Houck and John Thompson. Call 737-1636 to register.
April 27-29: A Medical Wilderness Adventure Race involving teams of health care professionals who will hike, run and canoe will be held April 27-29 at Wildwood Park. April 28: A canoe trip to the Savannah River rapids will begin at Savannah Rapids Pavilion at 9 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Sierra Club's Savannah River Group and some paddling experience is required. Call 724-5077 for information.
April 29: The 14th annual Augusta Canal Cruise and Bike Ride will be held Sun., April 29. Canoeists meet at Lake Olmstead at 1 p.m. and will be bused to the headgates. Tickets are $40, which includes canoe and barbecue. Bicyclist tickets are $20. Proceeds benefit Peach State Public Radio and the Canal Authority. Cal 823-0440 for tickets.
May 12: A tour of Heggie's Rock in Columbia County will be held starting at 10 a.m. The preserve is an unusual rock outcrop with many rare and endangered plants. Call 736-5951 for information.
