NHL suspends Caps' Simon for two games



NEW YORK -- Chris Simon of the Washington Capitals was suspended for two games by the NHL Friday for elbowing Anders Eriksson of the Florida Panthers.

Simon was assessed a major penalty on the play which occurred during the second period of Thursday's game. He was to miss games Friday night at Buffalo and Sunday against Tampa Bay and be eligible to return to the lineup for the Caps' first game of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The suspension will cost Simon $60,975.62. The money goes to the Players Emergency Assistance Fund.
