AUGUSTA, Ga. - Dr. David Edwin Steflik, of Ashton Woods Drive, Martinez, Ga., beloved husband of Mrs. Debra Simmons Steflik, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at his residence. Funeral mass will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Father Thomas J. Payton officiating. Burial will be private. Additional survivors include his mother, Mildred Steflik of Vestal, N.Y.; three sons, David Joseph Steflik, Timothy Donald Steflik and Michael John Steflik, all of Martinez, Ga.; two daughters, Christina Anne Steflik and Allison Marie Steflik, both of Martinez, Ga.; a brother, Joseph John Steflik Jr. of Vestal, N.Y. Active pallbearers will be R. Scott Corpe, Timothy Young, Gregory Parr, Allen Sisk, Joseph J. Steflik and Russell Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty of the Medical College of Georgia and the Residents of Orthopaedics. Dr. Steflik has held appointments at the Medical College of Georgia since 1979, where he was currently Professor of Surgery and Director of Research for the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery. He was professor of Cell Biology-Anatomy in the School of Graduate Studies and held an appointment with the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Steflik has authored, or co-authored, 90 papers in referred journals, 13 chapters in books, 190 abstracts and has made over 100 presentations to regional, national and international forums. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially managing and coaching Little League Baseball and County Recreation Basketball and Football. He also enjoyed speaking to elementary and middle school students concerning a wide variety of subjects, including cells, anatomy, dental health, history and sports. Dr. Steflik served on the Columbia County Board of Educations Committee, revising the entire Science curriculum.
