Mrs. Helen McGahee

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Helen Catherine Foster McGahee, 91, of Dartmouth Road, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Kentwood. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2001, at Platts Crawford Avenue Chapel with Dr. Timothy Owings and Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Private interment will be held in Westover Memorial Park prior to the memorial service. Helen McGahee, a native and lifelong resident of Augusta, was the daughter of the late Edwin L. Foster and Leila Ricketson Foster. A 1927 graduate of Tubman High School, an employee of Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for 26 years and a member of First Baptist Church, where, for many years, she was very active in youth teaching and missions. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Roscoe A. McGahee; two daughters, Elizabeth (Betty) McGahee Hendricks of Macon and Barbara A. McGahee of Augusta; son-in-law, Joseph Hendricks of Macon; three grandchildren, Catherine Hendricks of Mount Vernon, Ga., Barbara Hendricks Barkley of Baking Ridge, N.J., Joseph Hendricks of Carrollton, Ga.; and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. If so desired, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Mission Development Fund, 3500 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30909.
