Chronicle wins honors

The Augusta Chronicle has won an award from the Associated Press Sports Editors contest for 2000 for its annual Masters Tournament special section.

The 72-page section was recognized by judges for being one of the 10 best sections entered in the 40,000-100,000 circulation category. The section, which includes information on all aspects of the Masters Tournament, has been honored by the APSE nine times.

The Chronicle also received two writing awards in recent contests.

Bill Zack, Atlanta Braves beat reporter for The Chronicle and Morris News Service, won in the Associated Press Sports Editors contest for his game story on the Braves being eliminated from the National League playoffs last fall.

Former Chronicle staff writer Rick Dorsey won first place in daily features in the Golf Writers Association of America's annual contest for his profile of 1999 Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal.
