GREENSBORO, N.C. - With one goal from each of their top five scorers, the Augusta Lynx defeated the Greensboro Generals 5-3 before a crowd of 3,493 fans at Greensboro Coliseum on Saturday.
Scott Morrow, Paul Vincent, Jonas Soling, Louis Dumont and Dean Tiltgen got the goals, and Erasmo Saltarelli recorded 35 saves to defeat his former team to improve the Lynx's unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1).
The Lynx (30-25-6), who began the night two points behind Mississippi for the 10th and final playoff spot in the Southern Conference, won for the 13th time in their past 16 games.
Greensboro (24-32-7), also in the hunt for a playoff berth, entered the contest one point behind Johnstown for the eighth and final spot in the Northern Conference.
Augusta jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead on power-play goals by Dumont and Soling and a shorthanded tally from Vincent.
Greensboro rallied with a goals by Jason Ialongo and Sal Manganaro 19 seconds part in the opening 3:57 of the second period to make it 3-2. But a goal by Tiltgen late in the second and Morrow's goal at 14:20 of the third iced the win for the Lynx.
With the win, the Lynx improved to 13-15-4 on the road. They are off until Tuesday, when they travel to take on the Charlotte Checkers.
