Woman faces manslaughter charges

APPLING - A Grovetown woman faces manslaughter charges in the suffocation death of her 2-month-old son.

Janice Faye Gorry, 35, of the 100 block of Barber Street, is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Lukas Noel Gorry last May, according to an indictment returned by a Columbia County Grand Jury this week

Ms. Gorry phoned Grovetown authorities to report her son's death shortly after 6:30 a.m. on May 3.

Police questioned Ms. Gorry and Michelle Horsefall, of the 600 block of Katherine Street, which is where the death reportedly occurred. Ms. Horsefall was baby sitting the child for Ms. Gorry until she returned at about 1 a.m.

Ms. Gorry told authorities she fell asleep and later awoke and found her son lifeless.

According to the indictment, Ms. Gorry caused the death of her infant son unintentionally when she fell asleep with child on the floor and in a drunken sleep rolled over on top of the child and suffocated him.
